An Essay on Consumption.
Here's your essay with only grammar corrected, keeping your voice and ideas exactly as they are:
Social media — by now everyone is aware of what it even means, and most of the globe comes under this umbrella. The biggest distraction of all time is scrolling reels and shorts. I also heard Elon Musk saying that the worst invention of the human race is short-form content. Well, he is right about this stuff, whether we agree or not. Think about how much we have decreased our ability to focus on stuff that actually matters most.
In ancient times, people used to think carefully and give limited knowledge and information to the masses, so that they couldn't think too deeply or do the more prominent stuff — that was only done by the top hierarchy. But today, everyone has information just a click away. Now what is happening? We are getting an information overload problem. I get it now — why in previous times they spent more time thinking rather than collecting information. Because collecting is a secondary thing. The main question is not to capture more information, as our brain can store only a very small quantity of it, which we even forget the next day. They knew that.
So now, if you ask me what the solution to this problem is — honestly, I am also not sure I know all of it. But I can guarantee one thing: I have now limited my information intake. I do selective things and choose where I take information from. One more thing — I generally take knowledge based on the problem I am currently facing. Other than that, I don't take it. Because if I can't process this much information, what will I do with it? If I can't apply it, what is the use of gaining it? Ultimately, we are going to die and going to forget — why waste time on getting what doesn't help?
Now you will want to know how I have limited myself.
Step One
Starting with news — I have completely stopped consuming from news channels and media. To replace that, for financial news, I have shifted to the Economic Times magazine, which helps me get the details as well as a more perspective-based way of thinking on topics.
Step Two
For the problems I am facing, I have shifted to more boring stuff like books, where I learn about things and read about the problems I face to resolve them.
Step Three
You all might think I am anti-social media — well, not quite. I do use YouTube, but mostly for work and instant problem-solving. There is an option on YouTube where you can search only, with no recommended videos showing up. I have stopped that recommendation service to stay focused and get my work done. And one more thing — I only watch videos I specifically want to watch, not go down a continuous rabbit hole of autoplay. That is the best way to use YouTube.
Step Four
I started reading The New Yorker to improve my essay writing skills, as I also want to become a more advanced and proficient English speaker.
Step Five
I know you will say I don't use social media — yes, I do, but only when I am walking or during my commute. Other than that, I don't.
I am the kind of person who wants to create things. I like to create stuff rather than only use it and get used by it.
Always remember one thing — we have limited time. Use it to create things, not to be consumed by them. Because your creations will be there even after you die. Your consumption will not.
